We have a problem with mold in our shower. I know we have it easier than most living in such a dry climate, but I can’t stand it when I see mold in the shower. I want it clean, and don’t want it coming back. Here are a few options.
Getting rid of the mold.
1. Mix one part hydrogen peroxide (3%) and one part water, and spray it all over the shower, or wherever the mold is. Let it sit for an hour, then scrub! Hydrogen peroxide is H²O². When it is exposed to air, that second Oxygen molecule attaches to the oxygen molecules in the air, leaving the peroxide to just be H²O. So once it oxidizes, it isn’t potent anymore, and won’t clean. So it is useless after an hour or so.
2. If your mold problem is a little worse, the you might need something a little stronger. Again, mix one part bleach, one part water. Then spray it on. Let it sit for an hour, and scrub. Bleach also oxidizes, and loses its potency. If you use bleach, then make sure you have the fan on, or a window open.
Keeping it from returning.
Mold is going to grow when there is moisture, and especially when it’s warm. So, if you have a window, or fan, or skylight in your bathroom, use them. Keep the windows cracked. Use the fan when you shower, and it might help to keep the shower curtain, or door open when you’re don’t showering. (this is hard, but it makes all the difference in our bathroom)
